The Labouchere System

The Labouchere System is also known as the cancellation system or split martingale.

In a nut shell, it involves creating a number planning system to double up before you start playing the roulette. This way, it prevents the player to risk heavily in a dramatic double up. It is mainly used by Grind Players (Players looking for a solid profit with a small investment).

First, you have to decide how much you want to win. Then, you divide the value into ten units, which when added together equals the amount that you want to win.

Let´s suppose you want to win $100. You start by writing down 10 ascending numbers in a row numbers totaling 100 . Example:

10º Total
$3 $5 $6 $7 $8 $9 $13 $15 $16 $18 $100

You can use any numbers, but most players prefer to use sequential numbers. The first bet is made by adding the number on the far left to the far right - in this example is 18 + 3 = $ 21.

-- --
-- $5 $6 $7 $8 $9 $13 $15 $16 --

If your bet is not successful, then add the sum of the bet to the last number on the right. So that you'll get the following numbers:

10º 11º
$3 $5 $6 $7 $8 $9 $13 $15 $16 $18 $21

So your next bet will be the sum of $ 21 +3 = 24. With this system you don´t double the bet of $ 21 to $ 43 euros, but the next bet is for $ 24.

In this system the aim is to delete all the numbers you have written down - which means that you had won 100.

This system exceeding the Martingale system in the sense that you can make last more you budget. But to win you still need a game strategy to choose the correct numbers.

If you find yourself in a situation where the money you have available for the session is not enough to bet the sum of the number far left with the far right number then you have two options:

1) If you have enough to cover the value of the unit to the left then bet that value.

2) If it is not enough to wager the unit in the far left then bet the value most to the left that you can bet.

Perhaps the most popular variannt Labouchere system is the reverse Labouchere that Norman Leigh used to break the online casino Municipal in Nice (1966). The only difference is that instead of scratching the numbers when you win, you add the value of the last winning bet to the end of the series.
