The 1st and 3rd column
It was developed due to the distribution of numbers in the bet table layout of the roulette combined with the fact that the column pays 2:1.
If you look at the table layout you will notice that the 1st and 3rd column covers most of the red numbers (missing 4 reds from the 2nd column).
So you bet 2 units in 1st column and 2 units in the 3rd column. Then you add 2 units on the black. , The black bet provides "insurance" and this way you cover nearly all the numbers (in european Roulette misses 5 numbers - already counting with zero).
If the number that comes up is a red number in either the 1st or 3rd column you break even.
If the number that comes up is a black number in the middle column, you lose 2 units.
If the number that comes up is a red number in the middle column, you loose 6 units.If the number that comes up is a black number in the 1st or 3rd column, the player wins 4 pieces.
This is a patient system, and will not provide a quick fortune.
But as it is not a progressive betting system it avoids taking great risks and covers a good percentage of the numbers. Most players tend to feel that they risk more to gain less. Therefore, some players tend to eliminate the bet on black and bet only in the columns and create a progressive betting system.
