Roulette Lingo

American Wheel - A roulette wheel that has a total of 38 numbers (0 and 00 and numbers 1-36). American wheel and double-zero wheel are synonymous.

Bankroll - The total amount of money a player sets aside to play.

Big Number - number that has hit more than its theoretical average.

Black Bet - wager that the color of the next number will be black. Pays 1:1.

Cancellation Betting System – using a series of numbers that cancels numbers aftewr winning a bet and adds numbers after losing a bet. One popular type of Cancellation System is the LaBouchere System.

Carré - (French) for the Corner Bet.

Casino Advantage - The edge, usually shown as a percentage, that the house has over the player. Also called House Edge or Vig.

Chameleon Strategy - Looking for players who have been winning and then reproducing their bets.

Chasing Losses - Increasing your bets in order to recover what you've lost.

Cheval - (French) Split bet

Choppy Game - A game where no discernible patterns have been appearing.

Cold Table - Any table where players have been losing.

Colonne - (French) for Column Bet.

Color Up - To increase your bet.

Column Bet - A bet on one of the three columns of 12 numbers on the layout. Pays 2:1

Combination Bet - Using one or more credits in the same position to wager on more than one number at a time.

Comps - online casino "freebies" that are given out for certain amount you spend.

Corner Bet - One wager that bets four numbers at the same time. Also known as a Square Bet or a Quarter Bet. Pays o 8:1.

Croupier - (French) for roulette the virtual dealer.

D'Alembert Betting System - progressive system of betting where when you loose you increase your bet by one and decrease your bet by one unit after a win.

Derniere - (French) the last group of 12 numbers in the Dozen Bet.

Double Dynamite Roulette System - A combination of Big Number play and outside bet.

Double-Up System of Betting - bets are doubled after a loss in hopes of recouping the previous loss. Most popular Double-Up System is the Martingale System.

Douzaine - (French) for the Dozen Bet. Pays 2:1.

En Plein -(French) See Straight-up Bet.

En Prison Rule - When the outcome is zero, will allow the players to take back half his bet or leave the bet. If the following spin the outcome is again zero, then the whole bet is lost. This rule applies to even money bets only.

European Wheel - Roulette wheel that has only a single zero (0). It is also known as French Wheel.

Even (Number) Bet - A Bet that on the even numbers. Pays 1:1.

Even Money - A bet that pays off at one to one. Red, Black, Odd, Even, Low, and High bets all pay even money.

Fibonacci Betting System - A progressive betting system where each bet is a combination of the two previous numbers. (i.e., 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, etc.).

Five-Number Bet - Also known as sucker bet. Can only be made on the American Wheel and is a bet on 0, 00, 1, 2, or 3 at the same time. The bet that gives the online casino the best house edge ( 7.89%).

Flat Bettor - bets of the same amount each time.

Fluctuation in Probability -Numbers randomly appearing above the normal probability, usually only in the short-term. A short sequence of repeating numbers. Know also as Golden numbers

French Wheel: Same as European Wheel.

Gland Martingale (System) - Martingale System restrained of two steps after a predetermined number of even-money decisions has occurred. Not to be confused with Grand Martingale.

Golden Numbers - Numbers that have hit out of all proportion to their probability. Se also Fluctuation in Probability

Grand Martingale (System) - A variant of the Martingale System where you double your bets and add one extra unit after a loss. See Martingale System.

Grind - A small money player.

Grind Joint - A online casino that caters to Low Rollers or small-money players.

Grind System - Increasing one's bet a unit after each win or any strategy that tries to win small amounts frequently.

Guerrilla Gambling - Combination of strong smart play with favourable odds and hit-and-run system.

High Roller - A person who plays with big money.

High-Low Bet – A wager on lower numbers (1-18 or 19-36). Pays 1-1.

Hoca - Early version of roulette.

Hot and Cold Systems - Bets on the numbers or sequences of numbers that won previously. Another name for a streak method of system.

Hot Table - A table where the players is consistently winning.

House Edge - The mathematical advantage of the online casino . The house edge is set at 5.26%. With the European roulette the house has a edge of 2.70%.

Impair - (French) for the Odd Bet.

Inside Bet - A wager placed on any individual or selection of individual numbers on the roulette table.

La Bouchere Betting System - A type of Cancellation Betting System where numbers are cancelled out from a user-defined string of numbers after a win and added to the string of numbers after a loss.

Layout - The design imprinted on the felt table top with the various bets that can be made.

Line Bet - A wager that one of six numbers (two rows of three numbers separated by a line on the layout). Pays 5:1.

Manque - (French) for Low Bet.

Martingale Betting System - Double-Up System after every loss. Meaning that when you win, you'll win back all of your loss, plus the payoff for the original wager. System which dates back over a hundred years.

Money Management - Budget system a player uses to save his bankroll from ruin.

Noir - (French) Black Bet.

Odds - The likelihood of an event happening.

Orphans / Orphelins - It's a bet on three specific numbers 6, 34 and 17 that are neighbors on the wheel, but far apart on the layout.

Outside Bet - One of the 2-to-1 or even-money bets found on the outside of the roulette layout: Red, Black, Odd, Even, High or Low, Column, Dozen.

Pair - (French) for Even Bet.

Parlay - To double one's bet after a win.

Passe - (French) High Bet.

Patience System - waits for a certain number of decisions before placing a bet.

Player-Clocking - Watching to see which players have been winning and with what methods in order to use the Chameleon Strategy and mimic their betting patterns.

Positive Progression - Any system of wagering where you increase bets after a win. Opposite to Negative Progression like the Martingale system.

Premiere - (French) first group of 12 numbers in the Dozen.

Press - To increase the amount bet after a win.

Quarter Bet - Four numbers at the same time. Also known as a Corner Bet or a Square Bet. Pays off at 8:1.

Quatre –(French) for Quarter Bet.

Red-Black Bet - An 18 number bet by the colour of the numbers. Pays 1:1.

Reverse - Martingale Betting System. A system of playing the Martingale System "in reverse". That is, you double-up after each win instead of after each loss.

Rien Ne Vas Plus - (French) no more bets.

Rouge -(French) for a bet in 18 number with color red.

Ruin or Element of Ruin - Losing your bankroll.

Scared Money - Money you can't afford to lose.

Single Number Bet - A single wager on a single number. Pays 35:1.
