4 Main Rules Variations

Online casinos offer many game variations which have an impact on your odds to win. Main Rule Variations are:

1. Surrender -- Consists of giving up your hand and half your bet. Increases your odds of coming up a winner! There are two types of surrender; B)

Later Surrender - First the dealer checks for blackjack. If the dealer doesn´t have it you can surrender your hand.

Early Surrender you may choose to surrender before the dealer checks his cards for a blackjack, offering a cheap way out. A great advantage for you.

2. Number of Decks -- The number of decks used in online play generally varies from 1 to 8. the less the better.

3. Hit or Stand on 17 -- Dealer must stand on 17. A change in this rule, such as allowing the dealer to hit a "soft" 17 with an ace decreases your odds.

4. Peek for Blackjack - in standard rules the dealer peeks for blackjack when an ace or 10-point card is showing. This rule favours the player.

5. Double on 10 or 11 - You can only double on hard sums of 9 to 11, and not on soft sums including an ace. This decreases your odds of winning.

6. Double after Split - Most online blackjack games allow you to double after splitting your cards into two hands. This rule favours you.

7. Re-splits - After splitting your cards to form two hands, you may draw a matching card and still split again. This increases your odds.

8. Re-split Aces - Blackjack games may have different rules for re-splitting hands with aces in them, than with other cards. Re-splits with Aces also increases your odds.

9. Hit Split Aces - Only allows you to draw a single card to split an ace. If a game allows you to draw multiple cards to split aces this will favour your game.

10 Dealer wins ties - horrible for you as a player. To avoid!

11. Five card Charlie (five card trick) - When you already have five cards through hitting and you are not over 21 you immediately win. Wonderful for you! There are variants of this rule to a 6, 7, or 10 hand. Not so good for you but still a good rule.

12 Insurance - the dealer draws ace, you can "take insurance" before any hands are played. Bet up to half your original wager and win 2-to-1 if the dealer has blackjack. It is commonly accepted rule that this reduces your odds, unless you counting cards.

13 Blackjack pays - The standard game pays 3:2. But recently has shown new variations where you receive 6:5 or 1:1. Reduces your odds.
