Hard hand: a hand without an ace or a hand with an ace which can only be counted as one.
Natural: this is a total of 21 in only two cards.
Pat hand: a hand with a total of 17 to 21

Push a tie: this is where neither the dealer nor the player wins or loses. It is a tie hand between the dealer and the player.
Stand: refers to taking any more cards
Stake: refers to the amount of money that is bet
Underlay: refers to unfavorable bet
Barring a player: this is used to refer to a situation where a casino refuses to allow a player to play in a blackjack game
Surrender: to give up half the wager before the hand is complete
Late surrender: this is the surrender which is allowed, if and only if, the dealer does not have blackjack.
Shuffle: refers to mixing up the cards before dealing them
Paint: refers to any card bearing a picture; also called face card
Pit: this s the area in a casino where blackjack tables are
Pit boss: this is the boss who watches the whole blackjack pit
Hard: this is the total for any hand where there is no ace or the ace counts as one.
Draw a card: picking (drawing) an extra card on top of the original hand.
Soft hand: a hand containing an ace which has a value of 11.
Double down: this is the option with which the player has to double his bet with only one card to follow.
Stiff card: a card with a value between 2 and 6 which may force the dealer to hit
Stiff hand: this is the hand totaling 12-16 which will bust on a 10-value card hit.
Twenty-one (21): this is another term used to refer to blackjack
Cut: refers to splitting the deck of cards before they are dealt
House: this is another name for casino
Penetration: term used to refer to the number of cards the dealer deals out before shuffling the cards
Shoe: this is a box containing decks of cards.
Round: this is the complete series of play where every player has acted on the cards in their hands
Unfavorable deck: this is the deck with remaining which favors the casino, not the player
Anchorman: the player who is on the last seat of the table; on the dealer's far right. This is the same player who acts last; also known as third baseman.
Shiner: this is a reflecting device used to try to see the dealer's hole card.
Spooking: this is the act of standing behind the dealer to peep at the hole card and then secretly pass the information to a partner player sitting at the table. This is an illegal form of cheating in gambling industry and it is unacceptable.
Discard tray: this is a tray on the dealer's right side that holds all the cards that have been played or discarded
Black chip: this is a chip worth $100
Checks: another term for chips
Nickels: chips worth $5
Quarters: chips worth $25
Snapper: another term for blackjack
Insurance: a player can place an optional bet as an insurance in case the dealer's card shows an ace.
Ten value card: this is any card worth ten points; a 10, Queen, King or Jack
Ten poor deck: this is a deck in which cards that have been dealt most have more than 10-value
Ten rich deck: this is a deck in which less 10-value cards have been dealt.
